Google me!

August 24, 2002

Thanks to Jazy for pointing out that his site comes up first when typing ‘spy name’ into Google; he inspired me.

I typed ‘Justin Russell’ into Google and out of the first ten results, five were mine. FreeGrandmaMorrone’s on page two, so c’mon people, link to it! I haven’t even done a big push in site marking lately, either. 😉

Search Google for me!

Who wants to be crazy?

August 24, 2002

More evidence that there are either some good investors or just insane people out there.

TSS Charity Auction… (Sure they’re two of the most beautiful women on TV, but paying $150 or $600 for a mousepad??)

My ToDo list is two pages long

August 22, 2002

I have a lot to do before I go back to school. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Having a yard sale next weekend
  • Wrapping up my work with GOALS
  • Putting some old film pics onto my computer
  • Reformatting my iMac and starting over to try to make it faster
  • Getting stuff ready to take up to UMaine
  • Maybe going to the National Folk Festival this weekend
  • Going whale watching next weekend

Did I mention I’ll be busy?

When in Bangor

August 19, 2002

I worked in Bangor this morning. I have my own office (really just the GOALS office, but everyone else left on August 15th, so it’s all mine! muhahaha!). I think I really would have loved this job more if I had been working from Bangor; I would have had a number for people to call back (one of the toughest obstacles when you’re trying to get in contact with people), I’d have a place to hang out and not worry about other people needing to use the computers, and I’d be right in the middle of the GOALS program there. I felt kind of separated this summer since I was the only one working in our library, but in Bangor I would’ve been with almost everyone else. I wouldn’t’ve had the same feeling as those people who have worked with the program for three years, but still, it would have probably been better.

(Can’t wait until I get around to writing the script for my new blog… it’ll be so much easier to update…)

Justin the plumber

August 18, 2002

Our bathtub drain hasn’t been working well over the last few weeks and this morning, in fact, the water wouldn’t drain at all. We had tried a bunch of stuff: hot water, drain cleaners, vinegar and baking soda… but nothing worked. After this morning’s non-drainage, Mom asked me to go on the Internet to see if there were any tips. Thank Google for finding it. I found a couple of articles from the Home Depot and other assorted do-it-yourself sites that showed that the best solution would probably be to use a plunger.

After Mom requested that I not use the toilet plunger, I went down to the local True Value and got a pretty basic one for $3.15. After a few plunges, the thing drained as well as it did when we first got it. Have I mentioned lately how much I love the Internet?

Swimming is fun

August 15, 2002

I got to swim today for the first time all summer. It was at the GOALS celebration at Cole Stream Pond; I had never been there before, so add that to the list of firsts. The celebration went well, and I got a little airplane to throw at people… err, I mean throw around the room, a booklet to drop off at the library, and a GOALS hat. It was really great to see everyone in the program again, and it was really nice to swim.

Swimming is an excellent form of stress relief for me. I needed that. I also got some good time on the beach. One of these days I might swing down to Old Orchard to get a few rays and a couple waves.

Hot weather, cool buys

August 14, 2002

It was 96 degrees here today. Simply put, that sucks.

Kevin, an intern at TSS, said on Leoville that TechTV may well be auctioning off parts of the old set (to be torn down in September) on eBay. You know what that means; I’ll brush off my PayPal and get biddin’. Ooh, the possibilities.

A working demonstration

August 14, 2002

Yay, the new Union fire alarms work correctly. [rolls eyes]

Bah. I’ve been downgraded from a nice Union iMac to a library G3. Just when I was almost done burning that CD, too…

Another library!

August 14, 2002

I’m at the Orono Public Library right now. It’s a great library – a fairly big collection, a great children’s sections, and the computers rock: P4 Gateways that may or may not be from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Anyway, I’ll be working here on Tuesday afternoons and Wednesday mornings until I go back to school.

I also got to use one of the new 1.8 GHz Dells in the Union cluster. Those are very, very nice. So are the 20-25 new iMacs in the cluster, too. Reminds me of home.

I’m going to be incredibly busy over the next couple of days. I’m going to a few of the workshops at the Learners, Laptops, and Powerful Ideas conference over the next two days, and I’ll be seeing the Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged) by the Penobscot Theatre Company again tomorrow. On top of that, I’m going to Enfield for a celebration for GOALS from 10-3 tomorrow. Saturday is Children’s Day. I think I’ll find some time to sleep on Sunday.

Never satisfied

August 13, 2002

I’m redoing my blog.

I decided that I wanted my blog as the main page of justinrussell.com, since I think it’s probably the most useful section of the site. I’ll be sprinkling some new features around the site, too, but that comes later. Look for the new blog in September or October – earlier if I suddenly find that I have a lot of free time to waste.
