Whoa!

September 1, 2002

You’ve got to get a look at the TSS new set drawings. They’re a lot different than my mental picture of the new set, but I think it might really be great for the show.

I’m trying my hardest not to get the Test Taping Syndrome: the only way to really know how the show will be is to watch the show on the new set. Too bad I have to wait ’til September 23.

Thanks for the comments on my video, everyone. I might make another one sometime – with footage either from the old or new set, depending which I like better. 😉

The GOALS have been reached

August 30, 2002

I’m standing here for a final time in a stripped down Project GOALS office downstairs at the Bangor Public Library. The calendar has been changed to September and the office is cleaned out. I have one more lesson and then my first real summer job is done.

This is Justin Russell for Project GOALS, signing off.

Goodbye basement

August 29, 2002

The Screen Savers‘ last show from the basement set was tonight. They’ll be on a new, penthouse-like set starting on September 23, and they’ll be doing reruns and shows from the Call for Help set until then.

I’ve been working on a compilation of some of the best moments from this summer in a video. It gave me some good iMovie practice. Anyways, here’s the link.

New blogs?

August 29, 2002

Now that I’ve redone my blog, I’d like to know if any of you have any blogs you read a lot that aren’t on my blogroll.

If you’ve got one, just leave me a comment or something. I need new reading material for school.

New new new!!!

August 29, 2002

…and since nobody seemed to argue with me, I guess I’ll go ahead and change it. 🙂

Here’s my new blog (and site). Still hand-coded by me, both the HTML and the CGI. Still mostly the same content. Still the same basic blog thing. But there’s lots of new stuff on here, so explore around.

Why’d I do it this time? Well, I’m starting a new year, so it’s time for a new setup. I like promoting my site, but I like keeping it fresh and as interesting as I can make it. Hey, even TSS is moving to a new set… so everything’s changing. Why not this?

Key features. To your right, if you’re looking at the listing of entries, you’ll see a sidebar of a bunch of new things. I’ve got Blogrolling going, a very cool tool. Any names in bold have had their blogs updated recently. You’ll be able to see the current image of my two webcams (one new one of what I’m doing on the iMac, and I promise, I’ll be on these a lot this year since I leave my iMac on 24/7). One of the coolest new things: a photo gallery, all CGI. Incredibly easy to add photos, and it really makes navigation easy IMHO. Check it out. I’ll be adding photos frequently and I’ll be leading you to the gallery a lot. You can now see what I’m listening to on iTunes by watching the section in the right bar right under my webcams. Each page of the site has the same format but with a few color and design changes to make it look better on browsers (Mozilla in particular, which I use the most). My contact information is listed at right, too. Clicking on the comments link on a blog entry (leave me comments!!!) takes you to a newly laid out, easy to read entry page. You can browse through older blogs by using the links at the bottom of this left column. Oh, and in case you forget any of this before the quiz, it’s all on the handy What’s New page. And yes, all you Mac freaks, the entire site was coded on OS X. GoLive, to be exact, for this round.

So there’s a lot in it for you. There’s a lot in it for me, too. The blog is A LOT easier to update. You’ll see more pictures, more links, and more everything else since I’ve made it so that I don’t need to code HTML each entry. All around, it’s great.

So keep watch. You’ll probably get bored of me droning on and on by a few weeks, but hey, isn’t that what a blog’s for?

By the way, if you ever find something not working right on the site or have a suggestion for something or just want to chat, drop me an e-mail or instant message me. Remember, the contact information’s in the right bar. 🙂

In the immortal words of Beavis and Butthead

August 28, 2002

I’ve come to a realization.

The layout of my blog sucks.

Irritable Type

August 27, 2002

Is there a reason why no matter what browser I use, about half of the Movable Type blogs I see have the right column down at the bottom of the page instead of on the right? I promise I won’t use Movable Type anytime soon. I’m a Do-It-Yourself kinda guy. 🙂

Construction

August 27, 2002

They’re working on this place right up until school starts. They’ve dug up the road by the Union to put phone lines in and they haven’t quite perfected everything in the Union yet; it feels like it’s 40 degrees here in the cluster.

Good news: I got my books and a Maine Steiners album (my first)! $178 for the lot. I also got a ticket for the Darrell Hammond stand-up at MCA the first Wednesday of school. That’s gonna rock!

Which one, which one

August 26, 2002

What do you think? I need a webcam that’s compatible with my Mac. There are two choices as far as I’m concerned.

Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000: This one is on sale for $70 at Staples, and it looks like a great camera. I can supposedly get a driver for free for it, but if that doesn’t work I can get one for $20. OS X compatibility is a b*tch.

Hawking Tech DC320: $40 at buy.com, and it functions as both a digital camera and a webcam. That’s cool since I could take it around with me instead of my Olympus when I’m walking to class or other places. I have to pay $10 for it, though, and I’m not sure how the quality is compared to the Logitech. I like Logitech stuff, but if this is better for a lower price, I think I should go for this one.

What would you do? Let me know.

Whale watch 2002

August 25, 2002

I went on a whale watch trip today. We saw a couple of humpbacks, and they put on quite a show. I’m gonna hold off on the pictures for now, but I’ll put them up on Thursday or Friday. You’ll see why I’m waiting on Thursday or Friday. 🙂
